18 YEARS OF BIOSECURITY
In 2004 STERI-7 began developing a specialist broad-spectrum biocidal cleaner. Called STERI-7 XTRA, it has a remarkable 99.9999% kill rate against Coronavirus, Norovirus, Influenza and a wide range of other harmful and even deadly bacteria, viruses and spores including MRSA and C.Diff through to E.Coli (0157H), Salmonella enteritidis and Legionella pneumophila.
What is Biosecurity?
Our Philosophy
Biosecurity was originally defined as a set of protective procedures for agriculture; Dr Gregory Koblentz wrote that it was ‘designed to reduce the risk of transmission of infectious diseases in crops and livestock, quarantined pests, invasive alien species, and living modified organisms’. However, we think biosecurity is for everything and everyone.
At its most fundamental, biosecurity is everyday common-sense; basic hygiene, washing your hands as often as possible, all the things we do, or should do, as a matter of course. But wherever we go, we’ll come in contact with micro-organisms and pathogens. Some are simply unpleasant; many are deadly. Biosecurity needed a champion.
That’s why we developed a revolutionary system called Reactive Barrier Technology. Reactive Barrier Technology is a specialised micro emulsion which provides an optional sustained release system and offers powerful and sustained protection between cleans.
Like all our biosecurity protocols, processes and management systems, Reactive Barrier Technology is designed to offer the best possible protection against the harmful micro-organisms that surround us every day.
It’s an important part of one of our simplest and most effective protocols: BREAK–TREAT–PREVENT.
As the World Health Organisation says, just washing your hands regularly can help BREAK the chain of infection we’re exposed to in our daily lives. But we go further.
We have developed a range of biocidal disinfectant cleaners that TREAT and destroy the pathogens at source. And Reactive Barrier Technology helps PREVENT any further re-infection.
Break-Treat-Prevent is just one of the many Biosecurity solutions we have in the locker. Our R&D team is constantly developing new ideas and innovative products.
At STERI-7, our passion is not just Biosecurity, it’s Lifesecurity.
When we first started developing STERI-7 XTRA over 18 years ago, we came up with the concept of
‘Pioneering with Integrity’.
Lofty, perhaps, but we wanted to adopt a set of standards different to most of the other companies in
the industry. So, when we had a breakthrough, we didn’t PR Bomb the universe about our triumph,
we went back to the laboratory. We tested again and again at increasingly improbable levels under
progressively difficult conditions.
Until the product failed.
We would then try to improve it and then test again. And again, not till it succeeded but until it failed,
pushing the science and the formulas to the very extreme.
Only then do we think it fit for purpose.
When we are asked about biosecurity, we believe we have a duty of care to always give the most
responsible advice possible. If that means we should recommend you don't use our products,
we will tell you so.
Even though our livelihood depends on creating, developing and selling disinfectants, it is our
in-house policy to help you understand when and where you should or shouldn’t use them.
This goes well beyond what is required under the standard Risk Mitigation Measures (RMM)
demanded by the EU Biocides Regulations (BPR). Is all that pioneering with integrity?
We don’t think so, we know so.
Our Sustainability Efforts
Biosecurity and sustainability should go hand in hand. The more we can improve our carbon footprint the better for all. Our aim is to develop a sustainable ingredient base to all our delivery products: our surface wipes made from 100% biodegradable plant fibre; our spray refill pouches using less plastic.
In fact, we’re committed to removing and reducing our use of single use plastic packaging wherever possible to help address and reduce the effect it has on our planet.
Within a few years we are committed to making sure that:
-
100% of our packaging will be recyclable or reusable
-
Where we have to use plastic in packaging, at least 25% of its content will be recycled plastic where possible or allowed by regulators
-
All STERI-7 XTRA products will be clearly labelled to tell you how to best recycle them
-
We will continue with our projects looking at improving recyclability
